Union County Public Schools is pleased to announce that there are some new administrators on board: Shane Bosaw is the district’s Food Service Director and Amy Turner is the new Director of Special Projects.
Bosaw comes to Union County with impressive credentials and experience, including a Masters degree from University of Louisville. Although Bosaw may be remembered by some in his past role in the Department of Juvenile Justice and as the Drug Court Program Director, he has spent the last several years as director of the Food Service program in Webster County. While in Webster, Bosaw was a recipient of USDA’s Best Practices Reward in Leadership Development and Program Management.
“Mr. Bosaw’s experience in food service, his professionalism, and obvious enthusiasm for leading the UCPS Food Service program in the next school year will be a great bonus for our students,” said Superintendent Patricia Sheffer. “We are excited to welcome Mr. Bosaw to our team and look forward to seeing the results of his energetic and creative approach in our cafeterias.”
Having just officially started work on July 14, Bosaw hit the ground running with the launch of the new Community Eligibility Provision that will allow all UCPS elementary students to eat breakfast and lunch for free during the 2014-15 school year. “I am excited about offering the CEP to our students. It is a win-win approach that will help out our students’ families and also our district,” said Bosaw. “I am also happy to be part of such a great team. My first day on the job, I had the opportunity to sit down at the table with other district administrators and tackle issues together in a team setting.” When asked about his plans for food service, Bosaw expressed enthusiasm for things to come, “ I am looking forward to a great year with our students. It will be my goal to provide tasty, nutritional meals to the students of Union County.”
Taking over the helm in special education, Amy Turner has been a life-long member the Union County community and a Special Education teacher in the district for the last nine years. Turner has a Masters degree in Education from Murray State University as well as her Rank I, certification in Director of Special Education, and completion of all coursework for K-12 Principal Certification.
“During Mrs. Turner’s tenure as a teacher in UCPS, she has demonstrated a great deal of dedication to providing the highest quality of education for our students,” said Superintendent Patricia Sheffer. “She has grown as a leader in the special education department and I am confident that she will be an excellent addition to our administrative team. “
Turner has already proven to be a great team member and has immersed herself into the new director’s role. She is focused on providing great leadership in order to best serve the individual needs of each student. “I am so excited to take on this new role in fostering success and excellence in our students,” said Turner. “It will be very rewarding to be able to continue to serve the students and families in my own hometown in this new capacity. I am ready to build upon the great success the program has experienced in the past several years and help this program grow even more in its standards of excellence.”
Also in new roles for UCPS, are Brian Lovell and Sherri Collins.
With a recent restructuring of Central Office, some positions were moved around and job duties were reallocated. With this transition, Lovell has transferred from the Director of Special Projects to the role of Director of Personnel. In his new personnel role, Lovell will keep some of his previous responsibilities such as the supervisor for nurses, professional development, UCLA, and Title IX coordinator as well as provide leadership in the personnel department. Lovell has a great deal of previous work history including working at the state level, a non-profit director, classroom teacher, and district administrator which will all serve to enhance his continued success in the district and in the personnel department.
Collins was previously known as the Director of Assessment and Accountability for the district. Collins is now the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. Collins will continue in her role as district assessment coordinator as well as provide leadership in the areas of curriculum and instruction. With a background as classroom teacher, curriculum specialist, elementary principal, and district administrator, Collins has ample knowledge and experience that will serve her well in leading all of these areas.
“I am excited about the upcoming 2014-15 school year. I believe we have developed a great team with the right kind of attitude and commitment toward serving our students, families, and staff members,” said Superintendent Patricia Sheffer. “We are ready to SMOVE (smile + move) into the new school year!”
