Last week, UCPS educators Margie McGraw and Nichole Thomas visited the state capitol in Frankfort to promote career and technical education. Mrs. McGraw and Mrs. Thomas are both members of the Kentucky Association for Career & Technical Education (KACTE) Leadership Fellows program.
They met with Representative Jim Gooch and Senator Robby Mills to express gratitude for additional state CTE funding and share how it was used to enhance UCHS career pathways. McGraw and Thomas also emphasized the growing demand for skilled workers and the value of hands-on training for students. They highlighted the impact of Career and Technical Education on students, the community, and local businesses. “Our conversation reinforced how CTE equips students with essential skills that align with industry needs, ultimately strengthening the workforce,” Mrs. McGraw shared.
Additionally, Mrs. McGraw and Mrs. Thomas were honored to be recognized in the House of Representatives for being KACTE Leadership Fellows. Also, Justice Shea Nickell, who represents the 1st District, provided them with a behind-the-scenes tour of the Supreme Court Courtroom. Furthermore, they were presented with The House of Representatives Citation of Appreciation by JT Payne, House Representative and Henderson CTE Assistant Principal, for raising awareness of the benefits of CTE to the Commonwealth and its citizens.
We appreciate the ongoing efforts of Mrs. McGraw and Mrs. Thomas to promote career and technical education in our county and across Kentucky!
