UCPS Educators Join CTE Leadership Program

Two Union County Public Schools educators are among twelve new members of the statewide Career and Technical Education (CTE) Leadership Fellows Program! The Kentucky Association for Career and Technical Education (KACTE), a professional association of CTE teachers and administrators, organizes and presents the Fellows program with support from the Kentucky Department of Education’s Office of Career and Technical Education (OCTE). The educators in the 2024-25 KACTE Leadership Fellows Program include Margie McGraw from Union County High School and Nichole Thomas from Union County Learning Academy.

The KACTE Leadership Fellows Program is a leadership development program for Kentucky CTE educators who are KACTE members. It aims to grow individuals in the topic areas of leadership, policy, and professional development.

The KACTE Leadership Fellows Program seeks:

  • to provide an opportunity for CTE educators to become familiar with and participate in the processes used by policymakers in the development and implementation of laws, regulations, and other public policies at the local and state levels; and
  • to identify, train, and motivate a cadre of leaders who will continue to position KACTE as a leader in developing an educated, prepared, adaptable, and competitive workforce.

Mrs. McGraw is a Computer Programming teacher in the CTE Department at Union County High School. Her roles extend beyond the classroom as she serves as the FBLA advisor,

the Work-Based Learning Coordinator, and the Program Manager of the Perkins

Grant and TEDS.

Ms. Thomas is beginning a new role as school counselor at Union County Learning Academy after serving the last 12 years as a school counselor at Union County High School.  Her work has focused on enhancing CTE through partnerships with the U.S. Department of Education Career Z Initiative, Kentucky Advising Academy, Kentucky Community and Technical College System, Earle C. Clements Job Corps, and Henderson Community College's FAME program.

Congratulations to Mrs. McGraw and Ms. Thomas!
