Union County Public Schools is celebrating an exciting milestone as five schools have been recognized as America’s Healthiest Schools for the 2023-2024 school year! These schools— Morganfield Elementary, Sturgis Elementary, Uniontown Elementary, Union County Middle School, and Union County High School—are among just 879 schools nationwide to receive this prestigious honor from the Alliance for a Healthier Generation, a leading children’s health organization.
What makes this honor particularly special is that it marks the first time that every eligible school in Union County Public Schools has earned this distinction, highlighting the district’s unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of students, staff, and families. Despite the many challenges schools face today, these schools have continued to promote and sustain essential health policies and practices. The award recognizes their efforts in key areas such as Family and Community Engagement, Nutrition and Food Access, Local Wellness Policy, and Physical Education and Activity.
Superintendent Dr. Terra Hancock expressed her excitement for the honors. "We’re thrilled that every eligible school in our district has received this national recognition,” she noted. “This achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our school communities, who are making a real difference in creating healthy, thriving environments for everyone.”
America’s Healthiest Schools remains one of the country’s longest-running, nationwide recognition programs honoring schools for achievements in supporting whole child health equity for students, teachers, and staff.
Shane Bosaw, UCPS Director of Food Service and Wellness, also emphasized the significance of the awards. “Healthy schools are the foundation of successful learning,” he highlighted. “When we foster a safe, supportive, and healthy environment, we enable our students to excel both academically and personally. Congratulations to everyone who helps make our schools some of the healthiest in the nation!”
